First of all, if you haven't watched the video above check it out! We had a hankering to go catch some Grayling this year. There aren't too many spots in Idaho where you can catch them but we knew of a lake that has them. It ended up being a little bit of a hike a bike to the lake but when we got there the fishing was going off. It seems like that is the case a lot of times with these high mountain lakes. We were quickly able to catch some Grayling and even a Westslope Cutthroat. After an hour or so the fishing shut off. We knew of a river not too far away so we decided to bike down to it to see what else we could catch. It just so happens that there were eager Bull Trout in the river mixed in with some Rainbow Trout. So we ended up getting a grand slam.
We did this trip in early Summer. The weather was decent, runoff had subsided, and the fish were hitting dry flies. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. We actually tried to do this same trip a couple years ago and we went too early and with the runoff I think we only caught one fish. But on this particular day we mainly fished stimulator patterns to non picky fish. Our favorite kind of fishing!
Its really hard to beat a day like that where you can catch 4 species of fish and get a super fun bike ride in. We are probably going to have to repeat this trip at some point in the future because that is what we are all about. If you like our videos please consider subscribing to our YouTube channel!
